Third Day (Nashville, Tenn.) October 14, 2008 – Casting Crowns and rock band Third Day today received American Music Award (AMA) nominations for “Favorite Artist” in the Contemporary Inspirational category. Casting Crowns, who won this category at last year’s show, celebrates its fourth consecutive nomination while Third Day is honored with its third career nod. The 36th Annual AMAs will air Sunday, November 23rd (8:00-11:00 p.m. ET/PT) on ABC.

About Casting Crowns –
Casting Crowns, with lead singer Mark Hall, recently led the 39th Annual GMA Dove Awards with seven wins including Group of the Year for the fourth consecutive year, and Song of the Year for its No. 1 hit “East to West.” The group’s third studio recording The Altar and The Door achieved an historical debut at No. 2 on The Billboard 200 chart with 130,000 first-week copies sold, making it the highest debut in the country that week and the second highest CD seller of any kind in America. The album sailed to RIAA Gold status in 10 weeks. Casting Crowns was the No. 1 top-selling Christian music artist of 2007 and won its first American Music Award in November of 2007.

Lead singer Mark Hall is a full-time youth pastor, serving his 17th year in youth ministry as a student pastor at Eagle’s Landing First Baptist Church in Atlanta. All seven band members remain active in student ministry in the Atlanta area and tour part-time around their local church duties. About Third Day –
Over the past decade, Third Day has racked up 25 No. 1 radio singles and sold close to seven million albums. The band has garnered 23 career Dove Awards, three GRAMMY Awards (with eight career nominations), two consecutive American Music Award nods, multiple ASCAP honors, and has developed a historic partnership with Chevrolet. One of the top-ranked touring bands according to Pollstar, Third Day has played for audiences reaching into the millions and been covered by CBS’ “60 Minutes” and ABC’s “Nightline.” The band’s humanitarian efforts include raising nearly $300,000 for the victims of hurricanes Katrina and Rita and charities such as the Blood:Water Mission. The group is responsible for encouraging more than 15,000 fans to sponsor children across the globe through the work of World Vision. About the American Music Awards –
In 1973 Dick Clark created the American Music Awards to pay tribute to popular musicians from various genres of music and to put audiences in touch with the latest phenomena in American music. Since its founding, the AMAs have honored and showcased the talents of some of the biggest names in the music industry. For press credential requests, please go to www.dickclarkproductions.com/ama.

About the Voting –
Initial nominees were selected by using ballots containing names compiled from data supplied by the music industry trade publication, Radio & Records and Nielsen Soundscan, which tracks retail music sales. The ballots were then sent to a national sampling of more than 15,000 people based among other things on what type of music they listen to, what they buy and how many albums they purchase per year. The top three vote getters in each category were determined to be the nominees for this year’s American Music Awards (except in the Artist of the Year and T-Mobile Breakthrough categories which each have five Nominees). Winners will be determined by online voting at ama.abc.com as well as at amavote.com (votes will be collected from October 14 to November 7).
